Hackney Walk: Outlet Shopping has never been more fun in London

Hackney Walk

If you like designer bargains, but aren’t a fan of the designer price tags, Hackney Walk in East London should definitely be on your radar. Offering everything from discounted sportswear to interiors to luxury labels - it might be a secret spot, but won’t be for long.

Presenting an impressive range of designer outlets in one place, Hackney Walk provides yearlong sale shopping. You can snap up a bargain any time you fancy, with each store slashing off as much as 80% of their retail prices. You’ll find major players like Burberry, Joseph and Nike but also emerging, more edgy London labels to keep it real and mix up your style and your budget.

The 5 Outlet Stores you shouldn't miss

Burberry Outlet Store

BURBERRY

Who knew that Burberry would head east? The West End favourite has made a mark in the heart of East London’s shopping land and now you can look every inch the quintessential Brit. Snag a belted trench coat or classic check scarf for a fraction of the central London price. Last time we checked a Burberry mac was £697 (rather than £1,395 on Bond Street) and a beautiful winter coat in the softest of wool with fur collar retailed for £975 (down from £1,395).

One of the founding shops in the area, the outlet store has been at Chatham Place since 1991, and is actually using one of its old factories. Obviously with a complete facelift.

With up to 70% off high street prices, it is a great place to treat yourself and nab something from the mainline collection or from the great range of outlet specific pieces. They even have stock for men and kids, so the whole family can look chic. You can’t miss this - just follow the tourists who frequent the store on a regular basis or the busses, which tour from around London to the store.

Sunspel Outlet Store

SUNSPEL

Sunspel is the newest addition to the designer outlet family. After a sell-out sample sale at The BOX it is now raring to go and ready for Christmas shopping. With beautiful basics, loungewear and undies, Sunspel should not be missed. All made from British materials, with my fave being the smart, understated undies.

From gloves to silk scarves to bags and shoes there are also plenty of accessories to finish off an outfit as well as stock from previous collections at up to 60% off the high street price.

The BOX in Hackney

THE BOX

This is must visit for shopping addicts. The BOX hosts designer sample sales which change every week, so you can get your fashion fix without even trying. Get on our mailing list for the pre-sale previews so you can be the first in line for snapping up a bargain.

Offering a huge range of stock from established and emerging designers, this doesn't’ feel like a normal sample sale set up. The premium shopping environment with super friendly staff and boutique style changing rooms is what makes even the longest trip worth your while. Expect big names like Isabel Marant, Markus Lupfer or J Brand, as well as independent labels like Casely Hayford, Palmer//Harding and Eudon Choi at up to 80% off. Pringle of Scotland Outlet Store

PRINGLE OF SCOTLAND

What’s not to like about Pringle? The iconic British heritage brand is perfectly situated amongst the other British faves, and has a vast selection of timeless pieces as well as seasonal collections that are fit for British (and Hollywood) royalty. All made famous, made relevant and in some instances made for the first time, by this knitwear company, whose origins lie in the unassuming town of Hawick up in Scotland. With a history spanning more than 200 years and the arrival of Fran Stringer and her much acclaimed debut collection, Pringle perfectly merges legacy with contemporary style.

The Hackney Walk store offers some serious bargains - up to 40-50% off current prices and extra discounts during sales - and is still current, with stock just a year behind of what you can find in the flagship boutique on Mount Street. There won’t be any out-dated stock from collections you can’t even remember. Instead everything is fresh and relevant.

Prices range from £150 for a mixed merino jumper to £1,099 for a limited edition shearling jacket but be quick because seasonal collection pieces sell fast. However, if you have the nerves to wait you can get lucky and snap something up in the sale for up to 60-70% off!

Matchesfashion Outlet Store

MATCHESFASHION

How often do you see the credit MATCHESFASHION cropping up in magazine fashion editorials and lust over the selection? It is the essential destination for industry fashionistas, and now there is a chance for you to jump on that bandwagon in Hackney Walk. You will find the East London outpost next to Joseph in the railway arches and apart from the low prices you'd never guess it's an outlet store. Staff are friendly and welcoming passing you refreshments should you get tired from working yourself through the variety on offer. The current stock is from the  2014-16 catwalk collections and has been reduced by 30-50%.

With new stock arriving every fortnight on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and even more bargains at the annuals sales, where everything is reduced by up to 80% off, this is the destination for high fashion aficionados on a budget. It’s not super cheap but it’s great value for money.

On my radar was the Moncler jacket down from £1,134 to £660, a gorgeous Adam Lippes coat down from £1,710 to £855, the sell-out Vetements sock boots, down from £1,150 to £690 and the fantastic range of party wear, and cosy knits.

The foodie haven is run by hunky chef and businessman Magnus Reid, who is the proud owner of a Bib Gourmands, the award for casual dining from the infamous Michelin Guide.

Obviously with such a reputation, this bistro is going to be busy, so if you are planning a day out in Hackney Walk, I would definitely recommend you book. Described as ‘an urban, no-frills neighbourhood eatery, with a lively atmosphere’, the sharing plates and organic wines are just as funky as the owner and the weekend brunch is legendary.
